Fish Bun

 


Ingredients:

For the Dough:

  • All-purpose flour (maida) – 500g
  • Baking powder – 1 tsp
  • Warm water – 250ml
  • Yeast – 1 ½ tsp
  • Sugar – 2 tsp
  • Salt – 1 tsp
  • Oil – 2 tbsp

For the Filling:

  • Fish (canned fish or cooked fish) – 200g
  • Onion – 1 small (chopped)
  • Green chilies – 2-3 (sliced)
  • Garlic – 1 clove (chopped)
  • Curry leaves
  • Salt – to taste
  • Chili powder – ½ tsp
  • Pepper powder – ½ tsp
  • Oil

Preparation:

1. Preparing the Dough:

  1. Mix warm water with sugar and yeast, and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Combine flour, salt, and baking powder in a bowl. Add the yeast mixture and knead it into a soft dough.
  3. Add the oil and knead well until the dough is smooth.
  4. Cover and let it rise for 1-2 hours until it doubles in size.

2. Preparing the Filling:

  1. Heat oil in a pan and sauté onions, garlic, green chilies, and curry leaves until fragrant.
  2. Add the fish, chili powder, pepper powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a few minutes.
  3. Let the filling cool completely.

3. Assembling the Fish Buns:

  1. Divide the dough into 10-12 balls.
  2. Roll out each ball into a small circle. Place a spoonful of the fish filling in the center.
  3. Fold the edges and seal tightly to form a bun.
  4. Place the buns on a greased baking tray and let them rest for 15-20 minutes.

4. Baking:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F).
  2. Bake the buns for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
