Ingredients:
For the Dough:
- All-purpose flour (maida) – 500g
- Baking powder – 1 tsp
- Warm water – 250ml
- Yeast – 1 ½ tsp
- Sugar – 2 tsp
- Salt – 1 tsp
- Oil – 2 tbsp
For the Filling:
- Fish (canned fish or cooked fish) – 200g
- Onion – 1 small (chopped)
- Green chilies – 2-3 (sliced)
- Garlic – 1 clove (chopped)
- Curry leaves
- Salt – to taste
- Chili powder – ½ tsp
- Pepper powder – ½ tsp
- Oil
Preparation:
1. Preparing the Dough:
- Mix warm water with sugar and yeast, and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Combine flour, salt, and baking powder in a bowl. Add the yeast mixture and knead it into a soft dough.
- Add the oil and knead well until the dough is smooth.
- Cover and let it rise for 1-2 hours until it doubles in size.
2. Preparing the Filling:
- Heat oil in a pan and sauté onions, garlic, green chilies, and curry leaves until fragrant.
- Add the fish, chili powder, pepper powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a few minutes.
- Let the filling cool completely.
3. Assembling the Fish Buns:
- Divide the dough into 10-12 balls.
- Roll out each ball into a small circle. Place a spoonful of the fish filling in the center.
- Fold the edges and seal tightly to form a bun.
- Place the buns on a greased baking tray and let them rest for 15-20 minutes.
4. Baking:
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F).
- Bake the buns for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
