Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • All-purpose flour - 2 cups
  • Yeast - 1 tsp
  • Sugar - 2 tsp
  • Warm water - 1/2 cup
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Salt - 1/2 tsp

For the Vegetable Filling:

  • Carrot (finely chopped or grated) - 1
  • Cabbage (finely chopped) - 1 cup
  • Capsicum (finely chopped) - 1 small
  • Onion (finely chopped) - 1
  • Garlic (minced) - 1 clove
  • Ginger (grated) - 1/2 tsp
  • Soy sauce - 1 tbsp
  • Black pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Red chili powder (optional) - 1/4 tsp
  • Salt - to taste
  • Oil - 1 tbsp

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. In a small bowl, mix yeast, sugar, and warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, and yeast mixture. Add oil and knead into a soft dough.
  3. Cover the dough and let it rise for about 1 hour until it doubles in size.

Step 2: Make the Vegetable Filling

  1. Heat oil in a pan and sauté the garlic, ginger, and onion until fragrant.
  2. Add the chopped vegetables (carrot, cabbage, and capsicum) and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add soy sauce, black pepper, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook until the vegetables are slightly soft but not mushy.
  4. Let the filling cool completely.

Step 3: Assemble the Buns

  1. After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6-8 equal portions.
  2. Flatten each portion into a small circle. Place a spoonful of the vegetable filling in the center.
  3. Gather the edges of the dough and seal it tightly, shaping it into a bun.

Step 4: Bake the Buns

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Place the buns on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Cover and let them rest for 15 minutes.
  3. Brush the tops with milk or egg wash for a shiny, golden finish.
  4. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the buns are golden brown.
